Healthy Food Tips For Diabetes Patients - Koshys Hospital
Healthy Food |
It can seem overwhelming when you or someone you love has diabetes.
What to eat can be one of the biggest concerns. Let us guide you with quick
meal ideas, healthy snack choices and tips for eating out.
Don’t eat
Fat Foods:-
Everyone needs some fat as part of a healthy diet. But, cut back
on saturated fats, which are found in foods that are made of animal products
like butter and cheese, red and processed meats, palm oil, coconut oil, ghee,
and cakes and pastries.
Hydrate:-
We all need to stay hydrated by drinking 8–10 glasses of fluid per
day. Water is best, but milk, tea and coffee, herbal teas and some foods,
particularly fruit and veg, all contribute to this total.
Fruit and
vegetables:-
Naturally low in fat and calories and packed full of vitamins,
minerals and fibre, fruit and vegetables add flavour and variety to every
meal. They may also help protect against stroke, heart disease, high blood
pressure and some cancers. Beans have more to
boast about than being high in fiber (plant compounds that help you feel
full, steady blood sugar, and even lower cholesterol.
Eat Fish:-
Some types of fish are good sources of omega-3
fatty acids. These healthy fats may help to reduce the risk of heart disease by
decreasing triglycerides, blood pressure, slowing hardening of arteries, and
can also decrease the risk of arrhythmias. Sometimes, these fish high in
omega-3s are called “fatty fish”.
Friendly
Snacks:
Almonds, walnuts, pecans, peanuts, and cashews contain the healthy
monounsaturated fats that lower cholesterol and reduce the risk of heart
disease. And because they’re packed with protein and “good” fat, they won’t
raise blood sugar as much as crackers or pretzels do
Do
Exercise:-
Exercise is safe and highly recommended for most people
with type 2 diabetes, including those with complications. Along
with diet and medication, exercise will help you lower blood sugar
and lose weight.
